Kamariera and Edith Heke
Mum and Dad met in Palmerston North and went to live in Waimate North in about 1934. Dad was then employed on a farm in Te Ahu ahu.
In about 1937 Dad joined the Railway and we all went to live in Hoteo. He was later transferred to Mangapai as a Station Agent. After a space of 2 years he was transferred to Paerata where he spent the War years and in 1950 was transferred to Paeroa.
By then the family had grown to 10 children and he was promoted to many different positions on the Railways. Mum was a full time mother as you can imagine with such a large family. Dad was later transferred to Whangarei. He spent several years there till he transferred to Newmarket to be closer to a Hospital for Trevor. During this time they purchased a unit in Mt Wellington. They lived there for many years. They eventually sold the unit and went to live with Trevor and Christine. During their time with Trevor and Christine , Mum won Lotto and shared their winning's with the family. Mum died on the 31st July 1997 at Middlemore Hospital. The following year on 16th September 1998 Dad died at home with Trevor and Christine. Freda and I were in Scotland at the time and made the long trip back but missed the Tangi by one day.
