Parawhenua Marae is located at the corner of SH1 and Te Ahu Ahu Road Te Ahu Ahu. This Marae is of great significance to me. I was born here in Te Ahu Ahu. A lot of work as been done on the Wharenui and before that a new Wharekai was built. This has greatly enhanced the Marae. This is a very Historical part of New Zealand and was the scene of the Maori wars in the North. This area was the place where the first pakeha settlers made thier home. Just up the road is Waimate North where the Historic Anglican Church is situated. The Urupa there beside the Church has some very interesting headstones.
